Job Overview

The Times and Sunday Times are seeking a skilled News Planning Editor to join their news desks. This role involves coordinating the development of major stories, exclusives, and investigations to produce world-class coverage for digital and print.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate the development of major stories, exclusives, and investigations
  • Lead forward planning and co-ordination with the news desks of The Times and Sunday Times
  • Work with reporters, writers, and audience experts to develop story ideas
  • Successfully manage productive relationships with editors, deputy editors, and other section editors
  • Present at daily news meetings

Requirements

  • Experience working for a national newspaper or digital publisher
  • Demonstrable interest in news and current affairs
  • A detailed approach to forward planning along with strong organisational skills
  • Experience working under pressure, to tight deadlines, and with rigorous accuracy
  • An understanding of how audience data supports commissioning and how to promote a story on social media and through search engines
  • Able to communicate succinctly and effectively
  • Able to use social media platforms to engage current and new audiences
  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Persuasive presentation skills, well-developed inter-personal skills, with the ability to problem-solve
  • A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
