About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join Hearst UK's Entertainment Portfolio as a Deputy Chief Sub-Editor. As a key member of the editorial team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality and accuracy in all editorial content.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Chief Sub-Editor in overseeing the production process of all pages, from copy stage through to sending pages to press.
  • Sub-edit and fit layouts for all pages of best and Inside Soap magazine brands.
  • Sub-edit newsletter, online and social media content across the Entertainment Portfolio.
  • Meticulously check facts and details and be relentless in the pursuit of obtaining accurate information.
  • Sub-edit and rewrite copy where necessary, improving the flow, questioning what's missing or seems incorrect and filling in the 'gaps' to improve clarity for the reader.
  • Compose compelling display copy in keeping with house styles – including snappy captions that fit the tone of each title.
  • Sub-edit any additional editorial or commercial content that arises during the production process.
  • Ensure that pages meet each brand's high standards in terms of tone and accuracy.
  • Send pages to press and approve proofs.
  • Assist the Chief Sub-Editor in creating and adapting flatplans.
  • Assist in building and maintaining an up-to-date style guide for each title.
  • Be an ambassador of Hearst UK and its values.

About You

  • Experience on a consumer title.
  • Knowledge of best and Inside Soap and their readerships.
  • Experience using InDesign and CMS.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Meticulous and organised.
  • Calm under pressure.
  • Capable of juggling several tasks at once.
  • Good initiative.
