The role involves overseeing the Countryside and Greenspace Team to ensure adherence to statutory obligations, regulations, and legislation related to biodiversity, outdoor access, allotments, play area upkeep, and landscape architecture. This position also entails a corporate advisory function and encompasses both capital and revenue project management along with contractual obligations for project execution.
This is a specialized role that demands extensive experience in the environmental sector, a profound understanding of national policies, and knowledge of external funding opportunities. The ability to collaborate across various Council resources and contribute to policy formulation is essential. This position is crucial for ensuring that the Countryside & Greenspace team's initiatives are delivered efficiently and align with broader corporate objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage assigned revenue budgets and ensure that capital and revenue projects are executed within budget and according to specifications.
- Develop and sustain effective management strategies for Council-owned greenspaces, enhancing environmental sustainability, addressing community needs, and managing associated risks.
- Collaborate with the council to fulfill all statutory and regulatory responsibilities concerning biodiversity, wildlife management, outdoor access, and allotment sites.
- Partner with relevant organizations to ensure the effective management and enhancement of the Council's country parks.
- Oversee the development and management of Local Nature Reserves, including all aspects of planned improvement and annual maintenance activities in collaboration with Grounds operations.
- Secure and manage externally funded support as well as capital funding, providing a contract management service that guarantees improved service delivery and completion of community-led projects.
- Deliver professional landscape design and play development services, engaging with both external and internal stakeholders.
- Offer specialized advice to Council Resources and Committees while maintaining effective communication with governmental bodies, agencies, and other service delivery partners.
