Role Overview

The Health & Safety Lead plays a crucial role in enabling Network Development to enhance performance and mitigate risks.

This position is part of the Network Development, Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality department. Network Development comprises five business units responsible for developing and delivering Vodafone's mobile and fixed-line networks. The primary focus of this role will be within Network Deployment & Connectivity, the largest operational deployment area of Network Development. This area consists of four regional delivery units, and the role will be operationally placed within one regional unit while also supporting other areas of Network Development.

The responsibilities of the Health & Safety Lead can be categorized into two main areas: strategic enhancements and operational support.

From a strategic perspective, the Health & Safety Lead will assist the Health & Safety Authority for Network Development in identifying improvement opportunities and implementing changes to enhance performance and reduce risks.

On the operational side, the role will support Regional Senior Managers and operational teams by providing informed and specialized advice on how to conduct safe operational activities. Proactive engagement with internal teams and Vodafone partners is essential, as collaboration is a fundamental aspect of Vodafone's values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement strategic improvement initiatives at the regional and departmental levels.
  • Provide expert advice to regional senior managers regarding health and safety aspects and safe operational practices.
  • Ensure internal functions adhere to Vodafone's legal obligations and policies.
  • Facilitate health and safety engagement sessions with Vodafone partners awarded contracts in regional and national areas.
  • Hold Vodafone partners accountable for their legal duties and contractual commitments.
  • Review and formally approve project and contract-level Construction Phase Plans (CPPs).
  • Conduct thorough incident investigations.
  • Lead the resolution of significant non-conformances identified during monitoring activities.
  • Analyze data and generate reports for the Network Development Health & Safety Authority.

Candidate Profile:

  • Strong integrity to address potentially unpopular issues necessary for the health and safety of individuals and Vodafone.
  • Purpose-driven with the ability to promote positive cultural values in alignment with Vodafone Spirit.
  • Operationally aware and capable of supporting the safe execution of operational activities.
  • Analytical and fact-based in evaluating information.
  • Experienced in assessing the broader risk profile.
  • Skilled in managing challenging situations and communicating effectively with resistant team members.
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced and demanding environments.
  • Experienced in change management and implementing organizational changes.
  • Proficient in drafting processes, policies, procedural documents, and reports.
  • Willing to actively contribute to performance improvement and risk reduction, leading by example.

Qualifications:

  • Over 5 years of health and safety experience.
  • Industry experience in telecommunications, utilities, or street works.
  • Membership in an industry body at the GradIOSH level (or in the final stages of working towards it).
  • Completion of a Health and Safety Diploma (or currently pursuing one).
