ABOUT THE ROLE:

The UK Health and Safety Manager plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of Zero Harm at Work and at Home across three manufacturing sites in the UK. This position is primarily based at our main facility in Glasgow, with occasional visits to other locations in the North West and South of England. Reporting directly to the Global HSE Director, the Health and Safety Manager will be proactive and visible, offering expert guidance, coaching, and support to both management and staff regarding health and safety legislation and practices.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A robust background in health & safety management, with at least 3 years of experience leading this function in a medium to large-scale manufacturing environment or across multiple sites.
  • Experience in mechanical product manufacturing, particularly in precision engineering and fabrication, serving highly regulated industries such as oil & gas and power generation.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification, complemented by advanced health and safety certifications such as the NEBOSH diploma and/or CMIOSH.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards, ideally with experience in obtaining and maintaining accreditation, as well as being a certified ISO auditor.
  • Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration to enhance safety culture within a complex organizational structure.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure compliance with the latest UK health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify and mitigate safety and health hazards.
  • Participate in investigations of accidents and near-misses, documenting findings as necessary.
  • Inform the Plant Manager of all incidents that meet the criteria for reporting under company guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Manager to maintain all health and safety equipment, including fire safety tools, personal protective equipment, and first aid supplies.
  • Lead monthly health and safety meetings with site management and employee representatives.
  • Engage in daily activities such as preparing reports and briefs to enhance site safety and support operations.
  • Drive safety improvements and promote the adoption of Dover's HSE management system (Enablon).
  • Design and deliver health and safety training programs at both operational and site levels to elevate health and safety standards.
  • Work with the global Health and Safety team to share best practices and ensure uniformity in health and safety support across the organization.
  • Be flexible in providing health and safety assistance across all shifts and travel to various sites as needed.
