Overview

As a Senior Psychiatric Consultant, you will take on a pivotal role in leading a dedicated medical team. This position offers a unique chance to make a significant impact on individuals facing long-term mental health challenges.

Our facility features a 32-bed inpatient service, supported by another full-time Psychiatric Consultant and two associate specialists. In this capacity, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, and Social Work, to deliver comprehensive care and treatment for up to 16 patients, assisted by an Associate Specialist doctor.

Key responsibilities in this role encompass managing intricate cases, developing personalized care plans, and providing guidance on evidence-based treatments.

Primary Responsibilities of the Senior Psychiatric Consultant include:

  • Collaborating with care coordinators, commissioners, families, and other services/agencies.
  • Implementing the Mental Health Act and liaising with relevant authorities.
  • Engaging in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency partnerships.
  • Performing administrative duties related to patient care, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Maintaining professional registration with the General Medical Council and adhering to ethical standards.
  • Upholding Section 12(2) and approved clinician status.

*The facility operates a two-tier on-call system, with the first tier managed by associate specialists and agency staff. The post holder will be required to participate in the second tier on-call as the designated Responsible Clinician.

You will also be expected to provide coverage for colleagues during their absences, with reciprocal arrangements in place.

To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:

  • An MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • MRCPsych or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • The ability to independently manage the clinical care of patients.
  • Section 12(2) approval to practice in England and Approved Clinician status.
  • Experience in General Adult settings and familiarity with multi-disciplinary teamwork.
  • Background in acute inpatient or community settings, particularly in risk assessment and management.

About the Facility:

Our service consists of two wards, each accommodating 16 patients—one designated for males and the other for females. Patients may be admitted voluntarily or under the Mental Health Act.
