The Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team at American Express plays a vital role in enhancing and safeguarding the brand through public relations, social media engagement, content creation, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The Director of Employee Engagement will spearhead the internal communications strategy for American Express' International Card Services (ICS) division. This segment is one of the company's most rapidly expanding areas, overseeing card issuance outside the U.S. and maintaining a strong presence across various global regions. The role involves close collaboration with other divisions to enhance merchant acceptance, develop customer-facing digital solutions, and manage risk effectively.

In this position, you will design and implement internal communication strategies to foster understanding of the business's priorities and objectives among colleagues. Responsibilities include creating diverse content such as newsletters, memos, intranet articles, and presentations, as well as organizing senior leader town halls and colleague engagement events. You will work closely with teams in HR, legal, and finance, as well as the global CA&C team, to execute enterprise-wide campaigns and initiatives.

This role reports to the Vice President of International Communications and is structured as a hybrid position.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement internal communication initiatives to enhance engagement and connection to the vision and strategy of senior leadership. Innovate ways to improve the presentation of written content, multimedia, and in-person events. Strategically utilize available communication channels, including intranet sites and email, to maximize content engagement. Create engaging follow-up materials and summaries from colleague events. Assist in the rollout of corporate and global initiatives, including recognition programs and leadership development activities. Collaborate with CA&C colleagues across different regions to ensure consistency in global communications.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least 8 years of experience in communications or a related field. Strong strategic thinker with the ability to shape storytelling and channel management strategies effectively. Self-motivated individual with a passion for writing and storytelling, capable of crafting compelling communications that resonate with diverse audiences. Excellent writing and editing skills. Ability to translate complex business concepts into clear and engaging written communication. Strong project management capabilities with the ability to meet multiple deadlines. Exceptional collaboration skills, comfortable working across teams and engaging with colleagues at all organizational levels. Proficiency in PowerPoint, OneDrive, and other relevant software tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in graphic design and multimedia content creation is advantageous. Background in journalism, public relations, or mass communications is preferred. Experience in employee engagement and organizational communications for global entities is desirable.

Additional Information:

This is a hybrid role, requiring in-office presence on certain days. Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United Kingdom is required; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
