Job Title: School Youth Mentor

Active Recruitment is working closely with a Mainstream Primary School in Dagenham to find an experienced Youth Mentor to join their team on a temp to perm basis.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will provide specialist support to pupils in key stage 1 and 2 who are experiencing behaviour and attendance issues. They will work closely with the school's SENCO/Inclusion Lead to develop and implement strategies to manage and support these pupils.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement behaviour management strategies to support pupils with challenging behaviour.
  • Establish and maintain a 1:1 mentoring relationship with identified students to draw up agreed action plans and monitor progress.
  • Work with teachers and support staff to promote the effective use of behaviour management strategies.
  • Liaise with parents regarding behaviour incidents and offer support and assistance to the Assistant Head.
  • Supervise students not in lessons and work directly with individuals or groups to raise self-esteem and confidence.
  • Monitor progress in improving behaviour and maintain improvements once made.
  • Act as a motivator, role model, and advocate for young people.
  • Liaise with the SENCo and outside agencies as appropriate.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience inspiring and motivating pupils who display challenging behaviour.
  • Additional qualifications related to children (highly desirable).
  • Available to commit to a full-time, long-term position.
  • Secondary aged support experience (not necessarily within a school).
  • Calm, patient, and caring approach to working with children.
  • Confident in your approach and able to deliver effective interventions.

The successful candidate must have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service before starting this role.
