About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Independent Nuclear Safety Review Manager to join our team at Babcock International Group. As an Independent Nuclear Safety Review Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our nuclear operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of nuclear safety experts and external contract staff to conduct reviews of nuclear safety policy and independent peer review.
  • Act as the intelligent customer for reviews undertaken by contract staff, ensuring that all reviews are conducted to the highest standards.
  • Develop and maintain qualifications and experience records of staff, ensuring that they have the requisite competencies for future corporate needs.
  • Train and develop the skills of IPR Department staff to ensure that they have the necessary competencies for future corporate needs.
  • Ensure that peer review methodologies remain consistent with recognized good practice, promoting the company's image in external safety forums.
  • Liaise with the INO function to share regulatory intelligence and ensure consistent, collaborative programs that leverage the most effective utilization of the capability and capacity of both the INO and IPR teams.
  • Recommend changes and corrective actions to improve the company's performance in compliance with the Nuclear Site Licence and MoD Authorization.

Requirements

  • Extensive relevant, professional industrial experience in the nuclear safety field, preferably with well-developed recent experience.
  • General experience of safety-related engineering in a high-hazard industry, with a thorough understanding of Naval Base infrastructure and submarine engineering.
  • Significant experience in the conduct of safety analysis, ideally in a through-life support environment.
  • Knowledge of probabilistic and deterministic safety assessment, management, and analysis of fault schedules and derivation of safety functional requirements.
  • Understanding of the principles of safety case claims, arguments, and evidence to demonstrate how risks are managed and controlled.

Qualifications

  • Level 6 STEM qualification, or L5 qualification with substantial relevant experience.
  • Chartered Member of an Engineering, Scientific, or Environmental Professional Institution.
  • NUC Nuclear Plant Foundation Course Module 1 (or equivalent), and NUC Nuclear Fundamentals (Foundation) Course Module 2 (or equivalent).

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
