Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist Critical Care Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Critical Care team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to develop the critical care service across both Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal Hospital sites.
Main Responsibilities- Lead and provide expert SLT care to patients in Critical Care units and follow patients onto the ward as appropriate.
- Provide swallowing and communication assessment for all patients with a new tracheostomy, including those who are mechanically ventilated, as per GPICS standards.
- Provide timely assessment of all critically ill patients who have communication and/or swallowing difficulties as per GPICS standards.
- Support and educate colleagues both within and outside of the unit.
- Demonstrate evidence of clinical expertise in this field and working to evidence-based practice.
This post will join other Allied Health Professionals already working on the critical care unit, including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians, assistants, and a tracheostomy practitioner. The post holder will be expected to drive service development for Speech and Language Therapy and support more junior staff to develop their clinical expertise in this area.
Requirements- HCPC-acknowledged qualification in SLT.
- HCPC registered.
- Evidence of extensive experience in this clinical area.
- Evidence of teaching and presentation experience.
- Experience in audit and outcome measures.
