RESPONSIBILITIES

Weatherford presents an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Principal Design Engineer (Senior Project Engineer) to join our team.

This role represents the senior level position. As a technical authority, you will lead the design of both new and existing products and projects. You will evaluate and enhance solutions concerning products, components, or processes for cost-effectiveness and reliability. You will supervise the work of other design engineers and collaborate with engineering staff to ensure timely completion of projects/products. Your extensive experience and judgment will be essential in planning and achieving goals.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

OPERATIONAL
  • Provide technical authority and support for our global technical sales and operations teams in business pursuits and related support functions, including customer-facing activities.
  • Prepare comprehensive design proposals, timelines, and cost assessments for assigned projects.
  • Ensure technical specifications are documented clearly and manage any changes formally.
  • Execute engineering projects on schedule and within budget, adhering to input specifications and planning.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to design for manufacturability, ensuring product cost targets are achieved.
  • Develop new and existing product design packages in accordance with processes, ensuring standards and requirements are met and maintained.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional and customer design reviews for new and existing products.
  • Produce, develop, maintain, and sustain standardized engineering data and documentation.
  • Actively engage and contribute constructively to the activities, deliverables, and development of others.
  • Review and approve product design packages and associated engineering data and documentation from others.
  • Support the standardization of best practices and solutions proactively.
  • Lead, plan, and prepare product testing protocols and procedures.
  • Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation to support other functions and enhance service quality on associated products.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports as needed to support internal and external customer communications and understanding of events.
  • Maintain product technical and commercial test summary data, ensuring customer, regulatory, and Weatherford protocols are complete and transparent.
  • Address NCRs, support CPARs, and conduct associated root cause analysis.
  • Provide manual assistance in the assembly and testing processes of new and existing products.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement (OFI) regarding design, planning, and associated processes.
  • Proactively train, develop, and support global teams through effective training and competency content related to new products.
  • Ensure product data, documentation, and associated toolboxes are organized, standardized, and ready to support efficient supply chain and field operations.
  • Support the development of operational procedures, FMECA's, and HAZOPS to ensure service delivery excellence for associated products.
  • Actively support technology transfer and manage change (MoC) projects.
SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
  • Adhere to all Weatherford QHSSE policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all Customer QHSSE policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to safety meetings and foster a safety culture.
  • Report task-specific and area risk assessments.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and work instructions to ensure full compliance with HSE and quality expectations.
  • Train and develop in accordance with the defined training structure and competency system.
FINANCE
  • Responsible for project cost planning and control at the project level.
  • Accountable for product cost outcomes.
  • Assess cost implications of design changes or new designs, informing projected costs to management.
  • Ensure on-time, on-budget delivery for all assigned projects.
  • Report monthly planned versus actual progress of assigned projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 6-15+ years of relevant industry experience at an expert level, particularly in designing and testing downhole tools.
  • Must possess an Engineering Degree and demonstrate practical knowledge and work experience.
  • Experience in product realization and commercialization processes at a Project Engineer level.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD and associated engineering systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with mechanical engineering practices, standards, specifications, and regulations, especially in the oil and gas sector.
  • Experience with completion services and products.
  • A commitment to process discipline and a proven track record of executing plans and achieving results.
  • Experience in technology transfer and the development of others.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to navigate constraints in a collaborative and engaging manner.
  • Strong technical leadership and assertiveness skills, along with proficient verbal and written communication abilities.
