Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, United Kingdom Hywel Dda University Health Board Full time

Position Overview

Contract Type: Fixed Term/Secondment

About the Role:

We are excited to announce an opportunity for dedicated and passionate Band 6 Neurodevelopmental Practitioners to join our welcoming and diverse West Wales Integrated Autism Service. This role is pivotal in enhancing the lives of neuro-divergent adults.

We are looking for qualified professionals (Nurse, Allied Health Professional, Qualified Teacher with QTS, or Social Worker) who possess a genuine enthusiasm for neuro-diversity and a commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

The ideal candidates will have transferable skills and a strong desire to expand their knowledge and expertise in autism and neuro-divergence. You will thrive in high-pressure environments, delivering exceptional, collaborative care and support to autistic individuals, regardless of their mental health or learning challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

Your primary focus will be on conducting diagnostic assessments for autism, with comprehensive training provided. You will collaborate with autistic adults to identify and address their individual and group support needs, utilizing both virtual and face-to-face methods. Building partnerships with individuals, their families, and various organizations will be essential.

The West Wales Integrated Autism Service serves the Hywel Dda University Health Board region, providing diagnostic assessments for adults who may not qualify for statutory services, such as mental health and learning disabilities. Additionally, the service offers time-limited support, professional consultation, and training on autism.

Welsh language proficiency is desirable for this position; applications from both English and Welsh speakers are encouraged.

About Us:

Hywel Dda University Health Board is responsible for planning and delivering NHS healthcare services across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and neighboring counties. Our dedicated team of 12,000 staff provides a wide range of services, including primary, community, hospital, mental health, and learning disabilities care for approximately 384,000 individuals.

We collaborate with local authorities and various sectors, including public, private, and third sector partners, to deliver comprehensive healthcare solutions.

Commitment to Bilingualism:

The Health Board is dedicated to fostering bilingualism among its staff to enhance patient and service user experiences. We welcome applications from candidates who can communicate in Welsh, and we provide various learning opportunities and support to help staff meet language requirements during their employment.

Financial Wellbeing:

We offer access to Wagestream, a financial wellbeing tool that allows staff to track their earnings in real-time, access up to 50% of their earned wages, and receive guidance on managing their finances effectively.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • Relevant degree in a professional field (Nursing, Allied Health, Social Work, Education)
  • Registered with a professional body (NMC, HCPC, ECW, CCW, RCOT)
  • Post-registration qualification or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of National and Local Autism policies
  • Willingness to train in autism diagnostic assessment tools
  • Insight into the needs of autistic individuals and their families
  • Experience in multi-agency collaboration
  • Knowledge of record-keeping standards

Desirable:

  • Advanced training in neurodiversity
  • Professional interest in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Familiarity with specialist assessment tools

We look forward to welcoming individuals who are eager to contribute to our mission of supporting neuro-divergent individuals and their families.
