Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time
Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Research Associate to contribute to the exploration, analysis, and evaluation of innovative financing solutions for nature conservation across Africa.

A key aspect of this initiative is fostering community involvement and support to guarantee equitable distribution of financial resources. The successful candidate will have the chance to engage directly with communities in various African nations, particularly in collaboration with Natural State.

This research role will entail significant interaction with market players and discussions with public financial institutions, including Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), as well as other pertinent stakeholders.

This partnership will facilitate the creation and implementation of impact-driven financial strategies for nature conservation.

The selected candidate will be integrated into the Resilience and Development Group at the Environmental Change Institute (ECI) and the Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery, reporting directly to Dr. Nicola Ranger, Senior Researcher and Programme Leader.

Collaboration will also occur with Professor Yadvinder Malhi, Director of the Leverhulme Centre, Jonathan Baillie, and the broader team at Natural State to conduct research alongside local communities, financiers, and other stakeholders.

The ideal candidate should possess a relevant master's degree along with some research experience in fields such as international development, finance, economics, geography, or environmental sciences (for Grade 7 position), or be nearing completion of a relevant PhD/DPhil (for Grade 6 position), with appropriate adjustments in essential criteria, responsibilities, or duties.

Candidates must demonstrate sufficient specialized knowledge in the field to design research projects and methodologies.

They should have the capability to independently organize and oversee a research project, including managing a research budget and generating innovative research ideas.

A passion for nature, a strong interest in finance, and a willingness to travel are essential. A commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion is also required.
