About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Civic Operations Officer to join our team at the University of Derby. As a key member of our Civic Team, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of our civic and community projects and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on the day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring the delivery of our flagship programmes and projects to the highest standards.
  • Coordinate meetings with stakeholders, project partners, and host events to promote our civic work.
  • Manage operational planning, budgeting, and delivery of our work, including data collection, financial monitoring, and project management.
  • Network and collaborate with staff, students, and external stakeholders to support the delivery of our civic work.
  • Work closely with the Associate Professor (Civic Practice) to identify and develop new opportunities for partnerships, projects, and community engagement.
  • Be a point of contact for external stakeholders, oversee project agreements, and identify and liaise with appropriate stakeholders to track compliance to agreements.
  • Use expertise to impact support the Civic Team to report on and manage the appropriate financials for a project.
  • Lead on the evaluation of projects and programmes of work in association with the Associate Professor (Civic Practice) to provide robust reports on progress and impact.
  • Prepare and provide updates and/or seek approval by the Associate Professor (Civic Practice) and the Civic & Community Committee for new schemes of work.
  • Contribute to the annual budget setting process and monitor expenditure against the funds allocated to projects the role is involved with.
Requirements
  • Proven experience of leading, planning, and delivering projects against agreed targets.
  • Experience of successful bid writing and fundraising.
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluation processes, including effective data collection, impact analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience of budget management and risk management.
  • Curious, creative, and innovative thinker, including effective problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of aims and objectives of a Civic University and the National Civic University Network.
  • Excellent organisational, time management, communication, and networking skills.
  • Excellent digital capabilities across a breadth of platforms and software.
  • Good knowledge of the requirements for developing and enhancing performance – within teams and/or individuals.
