About the Role

Munich Re Specialty Group is seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team. As a trusted advisor to the business, you will provide expert guidance on cross-disciplinary legal issues within the MRSG Group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on and coordinate provision of advice on (re)insurance law issues, including wordings, delegation, and distribution contracts.
  • Provide expertise in commercial and corporate contract issues, including optimizing approach to intra-group agreements and third-party service contracts.
  • Work with and support Compliance on regulatory and sanctions matters.
  • Provide legal support to MRSG's distribution channels, including international offices, and in relation to Lloyd's Europe.
  • Collaborate with Munich Re Corporate Underwriting and other Munich-based lawyers to ensure all relevant group guidelines are understood and implemented across MRSG.
  • Develop strategy to enhance processes aimed at achieving consistency and streamlining provision of legal advice.
  • Provide training, develop template contracts, and share relevant knowledge across the business.
  • Support the Legal team in identifying any significant legal exposures, provide legal updates to the business, and where appropriate, manage external counsel instructions.
  • Help drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers/policyholders.

Requirements

  • Qualified Lawyer - Senior PQE with experience in private practice (insurance) and in-house.
  • Background and specialization in insurance law. Good understanding and experience working with the insurance industry.
  • Comprehensive understanding of legislative, regulatory, and competitive environment, including consumer products.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Understand MRSG business and growth strategy.
  • Good motivational and management skills.
  • University Degree and/or relevant professional qualification.
