Environmental Health Officer

Our client, SOLOS Consultants Ltd, is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Health Officer to join their team on an initial 3-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a corporately responsible and accessible Environmental Health service, which delivers legislative enforcement, advice, and education to promote and secure an enhanced sustainable and safe environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Environmental Health Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of premises, investigate incidents and accidents, and collect data to enable informed decision-making regarding environmental health conditions.
- Data Evaluation and Risk Assessment: Evaluate and appraise collected data, assessing and prioritizing levels of risk and comparing with standards to establish where there are deficiencies and determine the most appropriate method of improving environmental health conditions.
- Enforcement and Compliance: Use appropriate legal powers to enforce minimum legal environmental health standards, including the collection and presentation of evidence, serving legal notices, and pursuing court proceedings.
- Project Management: Specify, schedule, and supervise required works under legal powers or through contractual or voluntary arrangements to ensure the improvement of environmental health conditions.
- Public Communication and Education: Communicate effectively with members of the public and others, individually or collectively, in a variety of media to respond to complaints, explain legislative standards, mediate between conflicting individuals and groups, train and educate, promote council initiatives, and engage the public through consultation.
- Collaboration and Partnership Working: Collaborate with businesses, other agencies, organizations, and colleagues across the authority to develop and improve joint projects and ways of working, such as acting as Primary Authority Manager, attending meetings, drafting agreements, and providing authoritative advice for local and national businesses.
- Qualifications and Experience: Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHRB), and considerable post-qualification Environmental Health practice experience with a good knowledge and understanding of Environmental Health issues, including legislation, regulations, codes, and good practice.
- Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Detailed experience of the effective delivery of one of the following Environmental Health specialisms: Food safety, Health & safety, Housing, Pollution control, Port Health, Infectious Disease Control.
- Theoretical and Practical Knowledge: Ability to apply effectively and appropriately in practical situations, theoretical knowledge of Environmental Health.
- Commitment to Quality and Customer Focus: Commitment to and understanding of issues of quality of service, customer focus, and equality of access to services.
