Job Overview:

We are seeking an Innovation Project Portfolio Leader to join our dynamic team at De Beers Group. This role involves managing our innovation project portfolio and reporting directly to the Head of Innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the effectiveness and efficiency of our innovation initiatives, collaborating with colleagues across various departments and locations.
  • Oversee and maintain a balanced portfolio of projects, ensuring alignment with both short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Enhance the framework structure and governance processes for all project types within De Beers Group.
  • Conduct appraisals and governance of innovation projects related to our research and development and product offerings.
  • Provide insightful data analysis of the project portfolio, presenting findings in a clear and persuasive manner to influence key decisions.
  • Engage effectively with staff at all levels and across multiple functions to foster collaboration.

Duties and Tasks:

  • Analyze the project portfolio to ensure a balanced approach, considering crucial factors such as risk versus reward.
  • Evaluate portfolio performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement, promoting best practices in project management.
  • Develop and maintain innovation project funnels to prioritize projects effectively.
  • Create processes to illustrate interdependencies among projects within the portfolio.
  • Communicate the status of the portfolio regularly, utilizing dashboard metrics to highlight key changes and risks.
  • Oversee the New Product Introduction process, ensuring proper governance and oversight.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and leverage learnings across the portfolio.
  • Lead the digital transformation of project information, integrating with other data systems to derive insights.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders with confidence and strong diplomacy skills.
  • Extensive experience in project management within a scientific or related field, demonstrating a successful track record of project delivery.
  • Technical knowledge in a science-based discipline or relevant commercial experience is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage proactively with senior business leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Experience in a project or program management office is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in software applications, particularly MS PowerPoint, Excel, and Word; familiarity with PPM software and Power BI is a plus.
  • Highly organized, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
