About Mencap: Mencap is dedicated to providing a variety of programs aimed at assisting individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism in their journey towards employment.

Role Overview: Within our Inclusive Communities Team, we are implementing a program named Employ Me, which focuses on equipping individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism with the essential skills, knowledge, and experience necessary for securing paid employment.

Project Collaboration: Mencap Employ Me is collaborating with local authorities to offer tailored support to young individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Project Goals: This initiative, now in its second year, is designed to significantly enhance the lives of young people facing learning disabilities and/or autism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalized support to young interns, facilitating their integration into the workplace.
  • Assist in the development of skills and knowledge that will lead to paid employment opportunities.
  • Deliver Job Coach support to interns during their work placements.
  • Identify and create internship opportunities.
  • Collaborate with team members to align interns with suitable internship roles.
  • Engage with managers and mentors to monitor interns' progress and address any challenges that arise.

Position Details: This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week) on a fixed-term contract.

Qualifications:

  • A-C/9-4 in English (or equivalent).
  • A genuine interest in learning disabilities and autism.

Interview Requirements: Candidates invited for an interview will be required to present evidence of their GCSE English (or equivalent).
