Overview of the Centre

The Centre for Disaster Protection is dedicated to mitigating the impact of disasters on lives by assisting individuals, nations, and organizations in transforming their disaster planning and financing approaches. Our emphasis is on disaster risk financing, ensuring that financial resources and strategic plans are established prior to the occurrence of disasters, thereby enhancing protection for the most disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. We are devoted to fostering partnerships across various sectors and regions to promote more effective and equitable disaster risk financing that includes everyone.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a Communications Manager to oversee and execute all facets of our communication initiatives, encompassing content management, digital strategy, branding, and stakeholder relations.

Your role will be pivotal in shaping and executing our communication strategy, ensuring that all external communications uphold the highest standards of quality. This includes managing the Centre for Disaster Protection's publications, website, newsletters, events, podcasts, social media, and other content formats. You will be responsible for converting complex research findings into engaging content, leveraging your exceptional communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Quality Assurance: Oversee publication standards, providing guidance and support to colleagues on best practices and ensuring that all outputs meet the Centre's quality benchmarks.
  • Content Management: Manage the content production workflow, commissioning the complete production process from research completion to output launch, while supervising freelancer performance.
  • Content Development: Collaborate with the Head of Communications and the Evidence team to curate and develop engaging content in various innovative formats, ensuring our website remains dynamic and informative.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain and enhance stakeholder contact lists, contributing to the Centre's Client Relationship Management system.
  • Digital Strategy: Manage the Centre's online presence, including social media and website, while developing strategies to boost online engagement and brand consistency.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in content management and research communication, with proven experience in:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, capable of engaging with colleagues and external partners across various levels of seniority.
  • Proficiency in simplifying complex information into clear, engaging narratives.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to independently coordinate production processes.
  • Experience managing external suppliers and freelancers effectively.
  • A track record of developing and implementing multi-channel communication strategies.
