About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Shift Leader to join our team at DFDS UK & Ireland. As a Shift Leader, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating vessel and terminal activities, ensuring efficient resource allocation and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate vessel and terminal activities, ensuring efficient resource allocation and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with operational management to allocate labor and equipment, prioritize tasks, and identify potential problems.
  • Liaise with ships' officers and other departments to plan for each vessel's operation, resolve operational problems, and avoid disruptions and delays.
  • Manage customer relationships to ensure satisfaction and resolve potential issues with collaboration from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor activities to ensure cargo handling within the terminal adheres to operating procedures.
  • Engage with the team to ensure health and safety procedures and policies are discussed, briefed, and implemented with clear expectations.
  • Liaise with claims to work on damage prevention, reduce financial costs, and complete assessments for the Claims Department.
Leadership
  • Engage and communicate to ensure relevant policies, operating procedures, and service standards are maintained and further developed with the correct personnel involved.
  • Recruit and lead a team with an open and honest approach, understanding the requirement while listening to the team and giving support and development as needed.
  • Promote a culture where teams are listened to and empowered to make decisions with support from all colleagues.
  • Develop Health & Safety briefings and present to the teams any trends that highlight accidents, incidents, and near misses, to raise awareness and collectively come up with solutions to reduce these.
  • Conduct and complete HR investigations in a fair and equitable manner, ensuring all aspects have been considered to give an informed and impartial point of view.
  • Coach individuals/teams to ensure they have a clear understanding of tasks set out, while ensuring support and guidance is given throughout to achieve the goal.
