Design Manager

About the Role:
Fawkes and Reece is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Manager to join our team. As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing the design development for packages of works, chairing regular design team meetings, and managing consultant design teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the design development for packages of works, ensuring that all design information is accurate and complete.
- Chair regular design team meetings to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and aligned.
- Manage consultant design teams, ensuring that all design work is completed to the required standard.
- Regularly liaise with clients, architects, consultants, and construction teams to ensure that all design information is up-to-date and accurate.
- Manage specialist sub-contractor design teams, ensuring that all design work is completed to the required standard.
- Agree information required schedules and ensure that key dates are achieved.
- Deal with local authorities to achieve planning permissions.
- Review construction design information for buildability, compliance with contractors' proposals, employers' requirements, budget, and current building legislation.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering where appropriate.
- Proactively resolve issues and ensure the smooth and timely delivery of detailed design information for procurement and construction throughout the preconstruction and build process.
About the Company:
Fawkes and Reece is a busy Southern regional main contractor with an annual turnover of circa £750m, part of a larger main contracting group. We have a proven track record in the delivery of new build and refurbishment schemes in commercial office, industrial buildings, leisure centers, care homes, and across the UK.
Requirements:
- Either from an Engineering/Construction delivery or Architectural background, you will possess excellent technical and commercial knowledge, a keen understanding of construction methodology, materials, and systems, procurement lead times, etc.
- You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, strong planning and problem-solving ability, initiative, and a positive approach.
- You will be a highly driven, positive, and ambitious individual able to work well within a large team dynamic.
- You will ideally have a proven track record of successful project delivery with a recognized Main Contractor in a Design Coordination/Design Management role, or as a Site Manager looking to make the move into Design Management.
