Westlakes Recruit is currently seeking a Lead Civil, Structural and Architectural Engineer to support our nuclear sector clients.

Position Overview

As a Lead Engineer in Civil, Structural, and Architectural disciplines, you will engage in a unique role that encompasses the entire project lifecycle. This position offers the chance to manage and contribute to projects from initial concept through detailed engineering, construction oversight, and eventual decommissioning. This comprehensive involvement is particularly distinctive within a consultancy framework, making our projects both challenging and fulfilling.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will take a pivotal position within a dynamic design team, focusing on traditional, custom, and innovative designs of reinforced concrete, steel, and masonry structures for various projects, including defense and nuclear decommissioning. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering nuclear design work, inspections, and construction site support for a diverse range of public and private sector clients.
  • Conducting concept and feasibility studies for multidisciplinary design projects.
  • Performing analysis and design using engineering software such as Tekla and Robot, along with hand calculations.
  • Preparing essential documentation including calculations, CDM activities, Basis of Design, Material Specifications, Scopes of Work, and Technical reports.
  • Collaborating with Technicians to develop Revit models.
  • Working within integrated multidisciplinary teams to execute high-profile projects.
  • Ensuring all tasks are performed with a strong commitment to safety in both design and office environments.
  • Managing project delivery and mentoring junior CS&A Engineers.

This is a full-time position, offering a hybrid working model with a blend of office and remote work.

Essential Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Extensive experience in designing structures using reinforced concrete and steel.
  • Previous experience in the nuclear sector and knowledge of seismic loading design is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the latest design codes and standards.
  • An understanding of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.

Educational Background

Applicants should have:

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng or MEng).
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with membership in ICE or IStructE, or actively working towards it.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this position.
