About the Role

At Salvation Army Housing Association, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive, high-quality housing services, support, and resettlement for individuals who are or have recently experienced homelessness and require support and accommodation.

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Volunteer Counsellor to join our team based in our supported housing service. To help us achieve our mission of transforming the lives of vulnerable individuals, we are seeking a Volunteer Counsellor to provide one-to-one talk therapies for over 18s.

Residents may have experienced trauma and/or have complex needs. We aim to offer this service as part of their journey to progression from being homeless to being independent.

As a Volunteer Counsellor, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide one-to-one talk therapies to residents
  • Work with clients with complex needs
  • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with residents
  • Collaborate with our staff to manage risk and ensure the well-being of residents
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities
  • Contribute to the development of individualized strategies and plans to support residents' recovery and positive behavior
About the Candidate

We are seeking a Volunteer Counsellor who:

  • Has a strong understanding of the core conditions of counselling
  • Has completed at least 50 hours of counselling
  • Has experience working with clients with complex needs
  • Is able to demonstrate empathy and understanding in their work
  • Is a confident and capable communicator
  • Is able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Is committed to ongoing professional development
