Role: Assistant Clinical Nurse Specialist - Breast Reconstruction

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a skilled and motivated professional to become part of our surgical team as an Assistant Clinical Nurse Specialist focusing on Breast Reconstruction. This role is a part-time position, and the successful applicant will be expected to work a specified number of hours each week.

We are looking for candidates with specialized knowledge and experience in plastic and breast care. Proficiency in advanced wound management is essential for this position. Additional specialized training and support will be provided.

Our surgical services are located in a prominent area, featuring renowned consultant surgeons, offering a unique breadth of experience within one of the UK's most esteemed teaching hospitals. We are in the process of developing a regional strategy for plastic surgery, making this an exciting time to join our team.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with existing Breast Reconstruction Clinical Nurse Specialists and Plastic Surgery consultants who oversee patients undergoing reconstructive procedures. You will receive support from Nurse Specialists, Consultants, and your management team to enhance your professional skills and knowledge. There will be opportunities to engage in service improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient experiences.

Main Responsibilities

The individual in this role will be accountable for the assessment, planning, and delivery of specialized nursing guidance for patients undergoing plastic and reconstructive breast surgeries, addressing both oncological and non-oncological conditions in an outpatient environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting specialized nursing procedures such as areola micro-pigmentation, breast tissue expansion, and advanced wound care.
  • Providing clinical supervision to junior staff and students, and potentially engaging in research and clinical audits within the breast reconstruction specialty.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of service users while promoting dignity and human rights through person-centered care principles.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with various stakeholders, including Clinical Nurse Specialists, Matrons, Heads of Nursing, General Managers, Consultants, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Exhibiting compassionate leadership and contributing to service development and enhancements.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Registered Nurse with relevant qualifications on the NMC register.
  • Post-registration qualification or demonstrable experience in a relevant specialty.
  • Evidence of clinical knowledge supported by continuous professional development.
