Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with design, performance, and safety teams to analyze the technical aspects of reactor plant designs. This role involves conducting radiological consequences assessments that evaluate system performance, guide informed design choices, and ensure the safety and efficacy of the final output.

The individual will also formulate a strategic roadmap that aligns with design evolution and facilitates the Generic Design Assessment regulatory framework.

Leading a team, the Radiological Consequences Technical Lead will establish and refine validated analytical methodologies utilizing industry-standard practices.


Specific Duties Include:
  • Overseeing the development of radiological consequence assessments for both design basis and severe accident scenarios, ensuring compliance with best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Utilizing technical expertise to steer the radiological consequences analysis program, including defining analytical foundations and selecting appropriate methodologies.
  • Ensuring traceability of requirements from design through to analysis and validation processes.

Candidate Profile:
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Chartered Engineer/Physicist with experience in leading complex thermal hydraulic analysis projects.
  • Proven track record in severe accident consequence analysis within the nuclear domain.
  • Comprehensive understanding of nuclear reactor systems, operations, and relevant design codes.

Expertise in Radiological Consequence Analysis:
  • Proficient in numerical tools and software applications.
  • Experience in off-site atmospheric dispersion analysis.
  • Skilled in public dose assessment methodologies.
  • Knowledgeable about radiation-induced health effects and risk assessment in populations.
  • Familiar with the ICRP radiation protection framework and modern computational techniques.

Nuclear Safety Analysis Knowledge:
  • Experience with probabilistic safety assessment methods.
  • Familiarity with design basis fault assessment techniques.
  • Understanding of UK Safety Case and regulatory practices.
  • Knowledge of severe accident phenomena and analysis methods.

Technical Project Management:
  • Ability to define and manage project workstreams.
  • Delivering project milestones in accordance with established plans and budgets.
  • Risk management and progress monitoring.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
