Role Purpose

The Radiological Consequences Technical Lead will collaborate closely with design, performance, and safety teams to grasp the intricate technical aspects of reactor plant design. The role entails conducting comprehensive radiological consequences analyses that characterize system performance, inform strategic design choices, and ultimately validate the safety and efficacy of the final design.

The successful candidate will formulate a strategic approach and a forward-looking program that aligns with design evolution and the Generic Design Assessment regulatory framework.

Additionally, they will establish and guide a team dedicated to developing robust and validated analytical methods utilizing industry-standard codes and practices.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the development of radiological consequence analyses during both design basis and severe accident scenarios, ensuring compliance with best practices and established policies to substantiate nuclear power station designs that fulfill all project requirements.
  • Leverage technical expertise to steer the radiological consequences analysis program, including defining the analytical framework, selecting appropriate methodologies, and providing technical oversight to supporting analysts.
  • Establish and manage requirement traceability from design through to analysis, models, and method validation.

As we seek the ideal candidate for this position, we welcome individuals who possess a foundational level of experience, training, and qualifications.


Candidate Profile:
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Chartered Engineer/Physicist with experience in leading complex thermal hydraulic analysis projects.
  • Proven experience in delivering severe accident consequence analyses for nuclear facilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of nuclear reactor systems design and operations, including relevant design codes and systems engineering principles.

Expertise in Radiological Consequence Analysis:
  • Proficient in numerical tools and software applications.
  • Experience in conducting off-site atmospheric dispersion analyses.
  • Skilled in performing public dose assessments.
  • Knowledgeable about radiation-induced health effects and risk quantification.
  • Familiar with the evolving ICRP radiation protection framework and modern computational methods.

Nuclear Safety Analysis Knowledge:
  • Understanding of probabilistic safety assessment methodologies.
  • Experience with design basis fault assessment techniques.
  • Familiarity with UK Safety Case and regulatory practices.
  • Knowledge of severe accident phenomena and analysis methodologies.

Industry Knowledge:
  • Expertise in Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) design and operational behavior.
  • Understanding of severe accident systems and related phenomena.
  • Knowledge of Environmental, Safety, Security, and Safeguarding (E3S) regulations and principles.

Technical Delivery:
  • Define and manage project/program workstreams.
  • Ensure timely delivery of program milestones within budgetary constraints.
  • Identify and manage risks effectively.
  • Monitor project progress and provide technical writing and communication.
