Role Purpose
The Radiological Consequences Technical Lead will collaborate closely with design, performance, and safety teams to analyze the technical aspects of reactor plant designs. This role is crucial for producing radiological consequences assessments that characterize system performance, guide intelligent design choices, and ultimately ensure the safety and efficacy of the final design.
The successful candidate will establish a strategic framework and a forward-looking program that aligns with design development and the Generic Design Assessment regulatory process.
Additionally, this role involves leading a team to create robust and validated analytical methods using industry-standard codes and practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the development of radiological consequence assessments during both design basis and severe accident scenarios, ensuring compliance with best practices and regulatory standards.
- Utilize technical expertise to direct the radiological consequences analysis program, including defining the analytical framework and supervising supporting analysts.
- Manage requirement traceability from design through to analysis, ensuring comprehensive validation of models and methods.
We are looking for candidates who possess a strong foundation in relevant experience, training, and qualifications.
Candidate Profile
- Degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Chartered Engineer/Physicist with experience in leading complex thermal hydraulic analysis projects.
- Proven track record in severe accident consequence analysis within the nuclear sector.
- In-depth knowledge of nuclear reactor systems, operations, and relevant design codes.
Radiological Analysis Expertise
- Proficient in numerical tools and software applications.
- Experience in conducting off-site atmospheric dispersion analyses.
- Skilled in public dose assessments and understanding radiation-induced health effects.
- Familiarity with modern computational methods and radiation protection frameworks.
Nuclear Safety Analysis Knowledge
- Experience with probabilistic safety assessment methodologies.
- Knowledge of design basis fault assessment techniques.
- Understanding of UK safety case and regulatory practices.
- Expertise in severe accident phenomena and analytical methods.
Technical Delivery Skills
- Ability to define and manage project/program objectives.
- Track record of delivering project milestones within established timelines and budgets.
- Competence in risk management and progress monitoring.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
