Role Purpose
The Radiological Consequences Technical Lead will collaborate with design, performance, and safety teams to analyze the technical aspects of reactor plant designs. This includes producing assessments of radiological consequences that characterize system performance, guide informed design choices, and ultimately validate the safety and efficacy of the final designs.
The successful candidate will formulate a strategic plan and timeline that aligns with design development and the Generic Design Assessment regulatory framework.
They will assemble and lead a team dedicated to creating robust and validated analytical methods utilizing industry-standard codes and techniques.
This role also involves contributing to and learning from the broader safety and technical community within the nuclear sector, while also mentoring engineers within the team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development of radiological consequence assessments during both design basis and severe accident scenarios, ensuring compliance with best practices and standard policies to substantiate nuclear power station designs.
- Utilize technical expertise to guide the radiological consequences analysis program, including defining the analytical framework, selecting appropriate methodologies, and providing technical oversight to supporting analysts.
- Establish and manage requirement traceability from design through to analysis, models, and validation of methods.
We are looking for candidates who meet a minimum level of experience, training, and qualifications.
Candidate Profile:
- Degree qualified or equivalent in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Chartered Engineer/Physicist with experience in leading complex thermal hydraulic analysis projects.
- Proven experience in severe accident consequence analysis for nuclear facilities.
- Strong understanding of nuclear reactor systems design and operations, including relevant design codes and systems engineering principles.
Radiological Consequence Analysis Expertise:
- Proficient in numerical tools and software applications.
- Experience in conducting off-site atmospheric dispersion assessments.
- Skilled in public dose evaluation methodologies.
- Knowledgeable about radiation-induced health effects and risk assessment in human populations.
- Familiar with the evolving ICRP radiation protection framework and modern computational methods.
Nuclear Safety Analysis Knowledge:
- Expertise in probabilistic safety assessment methodologies.
- Experience with design basis fault assessment techniques.
- Familiarity with UK Safety Case and regulatory practices.
- Understanding of severe accident phenomena and analysis methods.
Technical Delivery Skills:
- Ability to define project scopes and deliverables.
- Track record of meeting program milestones within established timelines and budgets.
- Risk management capabilities.
- Progress monitoring and reporting skills.
- Strong technical writing and communication abilities.
