Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Science to lead our Science Department and drive academic excellence. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for curriculum development, staff management, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Department Leadership: Oversee the development and delivery of the science curriculum, ensuring alignment with the school's overall vision and objectives.
  • Staff Management: Support and mentor a team of dedicated science teachers, fostering a collaborative working environment and promoting continuous professional development.
  • Student Progress: Monitor and evaluate student progress, implementing strategies to improve attainment and engagement in science subjects.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership to align department goals with the school's overall vision and objectives.
  • Resource Management: Manage department resources efficiently, ensuring that all students have access to high-quality learning materials and experiences.
  • Culture Development: Promote a positive and inclusive culture within the department, encouraging students of all abilities to achieve their full potential.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a relevant degree in Science or a closely related subject.
  • Teaching Experience: Proven track record of successful teaching experience within a secondary school, with evidence of achieving strong student outcomes.
  • Leadership Experience: Previous experience in a leadership role, preferably as a Head of Department or Second in Science.
  • Subject Knowledge: Strong understanding of the UK National Curriculum and current educational practices in science.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate both staff and students.
  • Professional Development: Commitment to continuous professional development and a passion for innovative teaching methods.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also demonstrating initiative and leadership capabilities.
