Position Overview

The selected candidate will become a vital member of our team of Pediatric Nurses and Healthcare Assistants dedicated to delivering direct care and assistance to children facing temporary illnesses, enduring disabilities, chronic health issues, and end-of-life support. Our services are provided in diverse environments, including residences, educational institutions, and clinical facilities.

You will receive comprehensive training and ongoing clinical supervision to foster your professional growth and development.

Key Responsibilities

The Pediatric Nursing Team operates with a commitment to excellence and includes specialized services such as a Children's Asthma Team, Oncology Service, and Epilepsy Nurse Specialists. As a Pediatric Nursing Associate, you will deliver care under the guidance of the Team Leader and Community Nurse Specialists to children in various settings, including their homes and educational establishments. Our team provides essential services seven days a week, including holidays, with shifts organized through a monthly schedule. Additionally, we offer an on-call service outside of regular hours to ensure 24-hour support for children requiring end-of-life care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

Registered Nurse (Child Branch) or RSCN with evidence of relevant post-registration training or qualifications.

Desirable Criteria

Evidence of Leadership and/or Management training.

Experience

Essential Criteria

A minimum of 2-3 years of post-registration clinical experience working with children and their families, or 12-18 months of post-registration experience along with approximately 12 months as a Band 5 Associate Community Children's Nurse. A broad range of professional knowledge and experience in pediatric nursing, including palliative care, oncology, respiratory, cardiac, gastroenterology, special needs, and complex care.

Desirable Criteria

Experience in palliative care within community settings.

Knowledge

Essential Criteria

Comprehensive nursing knowledge and experience in basic clinical nursing skills, including care for tracheostomies, enteral feeding devices, and central venous catheters.

Desirable Criteria

Understanding of the various roles of nurses within community settings.

Skills and Abilities

Essential Criteria

Strong clinical skills, effective communication abilities with children and their caregivers, and the capacity to prioritize workload. Proficient IT skills and meticulous record-keeping in accordance with professional standards. Ability to work independently.

Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to plan ahead.
