About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Safeguarding Specialist to join our Safeguarding Team at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining efficient and effective safeguarding systems within the Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide visible leadership, knowledge, and expertise in relation to safeguarding and children in care for 0-25 staff.
  • Work with a range of multi-disciplinary colleagues as well as external health colleagues and multi-agency partners such as primary care, Local Authorities, and Local Safeguarding Children Partnerships.
  • Utilize your specialist knowledge of safeguarding, child development, and legal frameworks to support the Named Nurse in providing assurances that the Safeguarding Team delivers care which is of good quality and assures the trust and its wider partners.
  • Support the Named Nurse to meet our quality and governance requirements for CQC and Joint Targeted Area Inspections.
  • Establish effective working relationships and networks with all professionals and agencies contributing to safeguarding of children and young people in North Yorkshire.
  • Support the Safeguarding Children's Team in the delivery of safeguarding children training, supervision, and audit.
  • Provide advice and support to partner agencies, and the HDFT service.
  • Provide advice to Health Professionals and Professionals in other agencies about health needs and signpost to the appropriate health provider, referring to Senior members of the Safeguarding Children Team as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Experience of working as part of a team to ensure that Child Protection Plans/holistic assessments are progressed to improve outcomes for children.
  • Experience of teaching and assessing students, supporting staff and peers.
  • Ability in undertaking assessment of risk which includes cumulative risk.
  • Ability to evidence the voice of the child and life through the eyes of the child.
  • Ability to respectfully challenge views of members of health and other agency teams.
  • A good understanding of procedures relating to child protection.
  • Involvement in child protection supervision.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of the Court process.
  • Knowledge of Multi-Agency Protection Processes (MAPPA/MARAC/CEVT).
  • Knowledge of Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hubs.
  • Experience of clinical audit and performance management.
  • Experience working with a Safeguarding Children's Team.
