Position Overview

The Blood Collection service plays a vital role in supporting Pathology, general practitioners, community healthcare, and private medical facilities, ensuring the efficient collection of blood samples for laboratory analysis. Blood Collection Specialists deliver essential services to various healthcare settings, including hospitals and outpatient clinics.

We currently have two part-time positions available, offering 24 hours and 19 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize technology effectively for the accurate labeling of samples.
  • Exhibit compassion and professionalism as a member of our dedicated Blood Collection Team.
  • Ensure all specimens are labeled with precision, maintaining clarity and accuracy.
  • Provide services both in patient wards and designated Blood Collection Suites as needed.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork in all tasks.
  • Collect samples for specific tests, such as Oral Glucose Tolerance Tests, when required.
  • Maintain adequate supplies in work areas by restocking from Laboratory stores and notifying senior staff of any shortages.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality when handling patient information, ensuring that the implications of tests are not disclosed to patients.
  • Assist patients who may experience difficulties or discomfort during the blood collection process.
  • Report any incidents or accidents occurring during blood collection to a Senior Blood Collection Specialist and complete necessary documentation promptly.
  • Ensure cleanliness of all work areas and equipment on a daily basis, addressing any spills immediately and appropriately.
  • Be mindful of appointment schedules to minimize delays in service delivery.
