Key Responsibilities

Your primary role will involve providing expert leadership in procurement, working alongside the procurement team (including Technicians and Pharmacists) across all locations.

You will manage and lead the dispensary staff effectively, ensuring smooth operations at the designated site.

Establishing strong communication channels with pharmaceutical wholesalers, manufacturers, homecare providers, and external organizations is essential to guarantee efficient and cost-effective procurement and supply of medications.

Engagement with pharmacy personnel, healthcare professionals, and external clients on a variety of procurement-related inquiries will be a regular part of your duties, including contract modifications, medication availability, pricing (including controlled substances, unlicensed medications, and specials), and addressing supply challenges.

As an experienced, registered pharmacy technician, you will also provide guidance, supervision, and mentorship to your team members.

Participation in regional pharmacy procurement meetings and adjudication discussions regarding the tendering of medications and services will be part of your responsibilities.

You will lead the local dispensary team in delivering a comprehensive range of pharmacy medication supply and advisory services, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation governing medication supply services in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Job Duties

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical leadership in procurement, collaborating with the procurement team to ensure cost-effective medication procurement while minimizing patient impact due to stock shortages.
  • Leading the reporting of key performance indicators for procurement to senior management on a quarterly basis.
  • Managing procurement services to ensure prompt, efficient, and accurate supply operations, including purchase orders and budget management.
  • Communicating effectively with various stakeholders regarding the safe and efficient procurement of medications.
  • Engaging with pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals on a range of procurement inquiries.
  • Participating in regional pharmacy procurement meetings and discussions.
  • Leading the dispensary team in providing a comprehensive range of pharmacy services.
  • Collaborating with other dispensary managers to promote a safe and effective service.
  • Performing the duties of a registered pharmacy technician, including providing mentorship to team members.
  • Managing dispensary services and directing staff across various roles.
  • Contributing to the review and enhancement of dispensary services.
  • Supporting the training and assessment of dispensary staff.
  • Overseeing the management of technical dispensary staff.
  • Ensuring compliance with Royal Pharmaceutical Society standards.
  • Developing key performance indicators for feedback to senior management.
  • Participating in out-of-hours pharmacy service provision.
  • Embodying the Trust values and serving as a positive role model for the pharmacy team.
  • Adhering to financial protocols for all pharmacy-related activities.
  • Supporting the operational delivery of specialized services as required.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures at a degree level or equivalent.
  • Accredited checking technician certification.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician status with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience as a registered Pharmacy Technician in the UK.
  • Hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Management experience with pharmacy technicians and support staff.
  • Experience in mental health or physical health pharmacy service delivery.

Desirable:

  • Experience in performance management and staff discipline.
  • Experience in service development and policy implementation.
  • Project management experience.
  • Procurement training (CIPS).
