Position Overview
We are currently seeking a (Senior) Mechanical Technician, also referred to as a (Senior) Vacuum Technician, to engage in the construction, conditioning, testing, commissioning, installation, and upkeep of advanced vacuum systems and associated equipment.
This position will contribute significantly to our extensive facility enhancement project, known as Diamond-II, aimed at producing an even more powerful light source with increased energy output.
You will operate within a meticulously maintained ultra-high vacuum (UHV) clean assembly environment, conducting thorough inspections and acceptance testing of vacuum components while providing guidance on optimal procedures and techniques for UHV installations and assessments.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Preparing workspaces and equipment for vacuum installations.
- Offering expertise in the procurement and purchasing of necessary equipment.
- Implementing quality control measures and procedures in alignment with the Diamond project standards.
- Assisting in laboratory tests related to vacuum equipment and projects.
- Monitoring and managing maintenance requirements for equipment.
Candidates will be evaluated for either grade 5 or 6 positions based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
At the senior level, you will also oversee small teams during vacuum installation and maintenance operations, participating in the planning and preparation of tasks, including resource allocation for system installations.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background as a Technician or Engineer in a high-tech environment, with hands-on experience in the assembly and operation of scientific vacuum equipment.
To qualify for the senior level, candidates should ideally have completed a recognized Engineering Apprenticeship or hold an Engineering Degree, or demonstrate equivalent practical experience.
Familiarity or experience in the following areas will be advantageous:
- Leak detection technologies.
- Residual Gas Analysis.
- Quality Assurance Systems.
- Work and resource management.
- Implementation of Safe Work Systems.
- Operation of cranes, slings, and forklift trucks for heavy lifting.
- Testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electro-mechanical systems.
- Ability to interpret mechanical schematics.
