Importance of This Role

BT's global transmission network is fundamentally supported by submarine cables, which are crucial for delivering services to multinational corporate clients. A significant portion of BT's international communications is conducted via these cables, which also play a vital role in providing domestic services throughout the UK, including high-speed internet. The Subsea Engineering Manager oversees a dedicated team of engineers and technicians, ensuring that BT's subsea cable infrastructure is meticulously designed, engineered, and operated to meet all operational requirements.

Essential Qualifications

A valid UK Drivers Licence and eligibility for SC/DV Clearance are mandatory for this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overseeing all personnel within the BT Subsea Team, assessing performance against established BT standards for their respective roles.
  • Inspiring, guiding, and empowering a proactive subsea engineering team, while balancing the needs of personnel, the Subsea Team, customers, and financial objectives.
  • Supervising subsea engineers in the deployment, operation, maintenance, and retrieval of subsea cables throughout the UK and potentially abroad for BT and its partners.
  • Ensuring that subsea engineers are aligned with agreed service standards, maintaining oversight and control of service delivery.
  • Prioritizing the safety and security of Team Members, taking responsibility for a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with subsea safety training protocols.
  • Assisting Team Members in addressing complex subsea cable or backhaul network operational challenges, facilitating coordination among relevant personnel and support staff.
  • Maintaining visibility of Team Member workloads and resource allocation through effective reporting to the broader BT Subsea Team.
  • Managing and reporting on Total Labour Resource and Cost (TLR & TLC) and operational budgets for Team Members.
  • Implementing change initiatives and transformation projects that foster collaboration across various cable landing station locations.
  • Mentoring Team Members to enhance their skills through development, training, and recruitment, promoting a culture of continuous learning and mutual support.
  • Guiding the adoption of enhanced operational processes within the BT Subsea Team.
