Importance of the Role

BT is heavily reliant on submarine cables that form the core of its global transmission network, providing essential services to multinational corporate clients. A significant portion of BT's international communications is facilitated through these submarine cables, which also support domestic services within the UK, including high-speed broadband. The Subsea Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring that BT's subsea cable assets are designed, constructed, and maintained in alignment with the company's operational standards.

Eligibility for a full UK Drivers Licence & SC/DV Clearance is mandatory

Key Responsibilities
  • Overseeing all personnel within the BT Subsea Team, assessing performance against established BT standards for their respective roles.
  • Inspiring, guiding, and empowering a dynamic subsea engineering team, balancing priorities related to personnel, customer satisfaction, and financial objectives.
  • Supervising subsea engineers in the deployment, management, maintenance, and retrieval of subsea cables throughout the UK and potentially abroad for BT and its partners.
  • Ensuring that subsea engineers comprehend and fulfill agreed service levels, maintaining visibility and control over service delivery.
  • Prioritizing the safety and security of team members, taking direct responsibility for a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with subsea safety training protocols.
  • Assisting team members in navigating complex subsea cable or backhaul network operational challenges, coordinating with relevant personnel and support staff to resolve issues.
  • Maintaining transparency regarding team workload and resource allocation through appropriate reporting mechanisms.
  • Managing and reporting on Total Labour Resource and Cost (TLR & TLC) and operational budgets for team members.
  • Implementing change initiatives and transformation projects that foster collaboration across all cable landing station locations.
  • Encouraging team members to enhance their skills through mentoring, development, training, and recruitment, promoting a culture of continuous learning and support.
  • Guiding the implementation of enhanced operational processes within the BT Subsea Team.
