About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Gastroenterology Consultant to join our team at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. As a key member of our gastrointestinal service, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with a range of digestive health conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive gastroenterology services, including endoscopy, to patients with suspected or confirmed gastrointestinal diseases.
  • Participate in the ongoing development of our gastroenterology service, ensuring that it meets national and NICE frameworks.
  • Supervise and manage junior medical staff, ensuring that they receive the necessary training and support to provide high-quality care.
  • Contribute to teaching, examination, and accreditation duties, as well as continuing medical education activities, both locally and nationally.
  • Engage in medical audit and clinical effectiveness activities, fostering improvements in quality and standards.
  • Participate in the 1 in 11 Consultant general medical emergency on-call rota, providing cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorized absences.

The Gastroenterology Service at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust provides general and sub-specialty outpatient and inpatient care for gastroenterology and hepatology, including suspected cancers. Requirements
  • Full GMC Registration with a License to Practice.
  • Higher UK qualification - MRCP or equivalent recognized by the GMC.
  • Knowledge and application of up to date evidence-based practice.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients.
  • Experience in postgraduate teaching.
  • Knowledge of current trends in the specialty.
