Job Summary

Morson Talent is seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Process Safety Engineering, with a deep understanding of regulations, company procedures, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of regulations, company procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide timely technical/process safety engineering advice to onshore and offshore teams.
  • Lead asset Barrier Model reviews and assure the standard of process safety risk assessments.
  • Support the 10 elements of company SEMS and actively seek areas for safety improvement.
  • Participate in incident investigations and monitor and review technical/process safety processes.
  • Provide oversight on activities impacting major accident hazards and support regulator visits.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant regulations, company procedures, and best practice.
  • Work proactively with onshore and offshore teams to provide timely and accurate technical/process safety engineering advice.
  • Lead and participate in asset Barrier Model reviews, provide guidance for improvements, and a management overview of the asset Barrier model health status.
  • Assure the standard of process safety risk assessments for operational activities and proposed modifications.
  • Support and promote the technical/process safety element of the company's SEMS elements across the business.
  • Undertake the role of Performance Standard Owner for nominated Performance Standards.
  • Assist in the development and ongoing maintenance of a process safety reporting system, including relevant KPIs.
  • Actively seek areas for safety engineering and process safety improvement and develop sustainable efficient solutions.
  • Identify leading indicators related to process safety and act to ensure timely intervention for the prevention of MAH.
  • Provide Process Safety engineering-related information, advice, and support to all asset hubs and is responsible and accountable for acting on reports associated with performance assurance status against relevant performance standards.
  • Responsible for continually monitoring performance standards through audit and review to ensure that associated schedule and maintenance strategies are appropriate in the asset SECE lifecycle.
  • Participate in Process Safety-related incident investigation to ensure lessons are learned and effectively communicated across other sites and groups.
  • Monitor, maintain, review, and develop Process Safety processes and procedures.
  • Support and participate in Process Safety audits, conduct Safety Critical Risk Assessment (SCRA) / Operational Risk Assessment (ORA) reviews, input, and facilitate risk assessments to support decisions.
  • Prepare Technical Notes to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and provide technical justification to resolve technical/process safety-related issues.
  • Liaise with the ICP to resolve actions raised during periodic verification visits and be responsible for continually assessing the suitability of verification schemes.
  • Facilitate and coordinate HAZIDs, Risk Assessments, P&ID reviews, ALARP studies, and Major Accident Hazard Screening, ensuring maintenance of screening/assessment standards.
  • Provide Process Safety support for the Management of Change process, including reviewing AFA's, TQ's, P Forms, and WMS deferrals and Change Requests.
  • Plan, participate, coordinate, and provide technical input for Safety Case Thorough Review and COMAH Safety Report reviews.
  • Post reviews develop a lessons learned report that identifies opportunities for improvement and optimization of the Thorough Review process.
  • Support regulator visits to sites with a focus on process safety, providing input into responses to the regulator as needed (NAI's, letter items, enforcements, etc.), and prepare and support safety case amendments, material changes, and combined operations notifications submissions.
  • Facilitate process safety risk assessments for operational activities and proposed modifications (e.g., HAZID, QRA), monitor compliance with relevant company-wide procedures and standards, and record, measure, and analyze process safety performance in line with KPIs.
Professional Skills and Experiences
  • Well-rounded work experience preferred, with significant direct experience in either oil & gas operations or onshore support role closely linked to oil & gas operations.
  • Previous experience as a technical safety professional in the oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the UK regulatory regime.
  • Appreciation of Human Factors and the impact on Process Safety.
Educational Qualification and Certifications
  • Relevant engineering degree or equivalent and risk management qualification with considerable technical experience in a similar role.
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent in Safety and Reliability Engineering preferred.
