About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our Building Maintenance Team at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for carrying out a range of carpentry tasks, including maintenance, repairs, and installations.

Main Responsibilities

  • Carry out carpentry tasks, including maintenance, repairs, and installations, to a high standard.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of the Trust's buildings and estates.
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople to ensure a smooth and efficient service.
  • Contribute to the development of the department's skills and knowledge.

Requirements

  • Apprenticeship in a relevant core trade, with a minimum of a City and Guilds with advanced craft certificate or BTEC, ONC in a relevant building maintenance trade.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in general building maintenance, outside of core trades such as painting and decorating, carpentry, and joinery.
  • Good understanding of the relationship between other craftsmen's work and their own.
  • Experience of maintenance carpentry and building in a range of settings.
  • Basic electrical safety training to be able to fulfill duties without support from other trades.
  • Ability to interpret and work from all instructions, drawings, and specifications appropriate to the original trade, without supervision.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience working in a complex building maintenance environment.
  • Basic electrical safety training to be able to fulfill duties without support from other trades.
  • Understanding of the working of mechanical and/or electrical and/or plumbing and/or gas systems in NHS buildings.
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Joinery ability.
