Job Summary

The Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group is seeking a skilled Estates Maintenance Technician to join our team. As an Estates Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out a range of maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our buildings.

Main Responsibilities

  • To carry out routine maintenance tasks, including carpentry and joinery work, to ensure the upkeep of our buildings.
  • To diagnose and repair faults in electrical systems, including fire doors, lighting circuits, and power circuits.
  • To support and assist with engineering emergencies using your own initiative.
  • To glaze windows, fit and maintain locks, and carry out other related tasks.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in general building maintenance, outside of core trades such as painting and decorating, carpentry, and joinery.
  • A good understanding of the relationship between other craftsmen's work and your own.
  • Experience of maintenance carpentry and building in a range of settings.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working in a complex building maintenance environment is desirable.
  • Basic electrical safety training is required to be able to fulfill duties without support from other trades.
  • A good understanding of the working of mechanical and/or electrical and/or plumbing and/or gas systems in NHS buildings is desirable.
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment is desirable.
  • Joinery ability is essential.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to interpret and work from all instructions, drawings, and specifications appropriate to the original trade, without supervision.
  • Ability to set out new work or set up new production appropriate to the original trade using relevant instruments and machinery, without supervision.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair faults in basic electrical systems, including fire doors, lighting circuits, and power circuits.
  • Ability to support and assist with engineering emergencies using your own initiative.
  • Ability to glaze windows, fit and maintain locks.
  • Health and safety training is essential.
  • Good knowledge of carpentry and joinery techniques is essential.
  • Electrical training, water supply training, and environment health and safety training are desirable.
