Job Summary
The Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group is seeking a skilled Estates Building Maintenance Worker/Carpenter to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our buildings and facilities.
Main Responsibilities
- Carry out routine maintenance and repairs to buildings and facilities, including carpentry and joinery work.
- Respond to maintenance requests and emergencies in a timely and efficient manner.
- Conduct inspections and assessments to identify potential maintenance issues and develop plans to address them.
- Collaborate with other tradespeople and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of building systems, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
Requirements
- Apprenticeship in a relevant trade with a minimum of a City and Guilds advanced craft certificate or BTEC in a relevant building maintenance trade.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in general building maintenance, outside of core trades such as painting and decorating, carpentry, and joinery.
- Good understanding of the relationship between other craftsmen's work and their own.
- Experience of maintenance carpentry and building in a range of settings.
Desirable Criteria
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in a complex building maintenance environment.
- Basic electrical safety training to work independently.
- Understanding of mechanical and/or electrical and/or plumbing and/or gas systems in NHS buildings.
- Experience working in a healthcare environment.
- Joinery ability.
Skills
- Ability to interpret and work from instructions, drawings, and specifications without supervision.
- Ability to set out new work or set up new production using relevant instruments and machinery without supervision.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools.
Knowledge
- Health and safety training.
- Good knowledge of carpentry and joinery techniques.
Working Environment
The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, responding to maintenance requests and emergencies in a timely and efficient manner. They will be required to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in a variety of weather conditions.
