Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Multidisciplinary Physiotherapist to join our team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. As a Band 6 Senior OPAL Physiotherapist, you will play a key role in providing timely and effective assessments to patients with acute needs within our hospital.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Treatment
    • Conduct comprehensive geriatric assessments in the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit, and Frailty Same Day Emergency Care (FSDEC) to identify patients' needs and develop individualized care plans.
    • Provide timely and effective patient-centered assessments to those with acute needs within the hospital.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide seamless transitions and optimal patient outcomes.
    • Collaborate with community services to ensure patients receive the support and treatment they need in the most appropriate setting.
  • Leadership and Supervision
    • Supervise and support junior staff, including undergraduate students on clinical placements.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of the FSDEC service.
Requirements
  • Essential
    • BSc Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
    • HCPC registration.
    • 18 months' experience as a Band 5 Physiotherapist.
    • Experience of working within an NHS trust.
  • Desirable
    • Evidence of leadership training.
    • Interest or membership in the Acute Medical Society.
Person Specification
  • Specialist Knowledge
    • Specialist knowledge in the field of frailty syndromes and interventions for older people.
  • Experience
    • Experience of working at Band 5 level or above within the NHS.
    • Good understanding of working in an acute trust.
    • Experience in the supervision and management of junior staff.
    • Evidence of and desire to supervise students.
    • Understanding of current legislation and application to physiotherapy.
  • Additional Criteria
    • Demonstrate a professional attitude.
    • Ability to cope with moving/manoeuvring patients/equipment on a daily basis.
    • Ability to cope with occasional exposure to distressing/emotional situations.
    • Demonstrate an interest in developing expertise within older adults assessments.
