Searo Labs is developing the next generation of advanced natural materials to replace plastic. The company’s technology builds on over a decade of research into sustainable material technology, yielding applications ranging from packaging to fashion, textiles and food.

We have assembled a world-leading implementation team to commercialise its technology. The company operates out of our labs on Cambridge Science Park and has recently established an engineering pilot facility at the Global Innovation and Technology Centre.

Founders and joint Chief Executives of Searo, Ayça and Francis, have won multiple awards in sustainable business and innovation, and are searching for a Chief of Staff to champion and execute their vision. This is a unique opportunity to become the right hand of our CEOs for strategic projects, and to lead and grow our internal strategy team.

Tasks

Planning, Coordination, and Stakeholder Management:

  • Act as the right hand of the CEOs, enhancing their efficiency and effectiveness as far as possible by working independently to solve problems, trouble shoot and undertake general administrative tasks (inc. diary and travel management).
  • Prepare and manage internal and external touchpoints with stakeholders and project manage activities with external providers to ensure timely delivery
  • Optimize organizational processes for efficiency and productivity
  • Prepare for and attend senior leadership meetings, take minutes, follow up and take action accordingly.

Business development:

  • Produce high quality presentation materials (such as marketing or pitch decks) by working independently.
  • Support the development of business strategies identified by CEO’s and continuously take action to drive business development.
  • Help manage the company roadmap and identify and inform of upcoming deadlines and propose actions to the leadership team.
  • Conduct research into target markets, identify opportunities and product applications
  • Monitor developments throughout the competitive landscape, log changes and compile reports, making strategic recommendations.
  • Manage communications with collaborators and stakeholders, including agencies, consultants, investors, customers, to ensure delivery of successful project outcomes and company milestones.

Human Resources:

  • Run HR processes including hiring, interviewing, onboarding, performance and disciplinary reviews and staff welfare monitoring.
  • Act as the first point of contact for HR issues and report to CEOs as necessary.
  • Organize staff welfare activities and evaluate additional benefits for employees as necessary.
  • Review and update internal HR policies as necessary.

Community and Marketing:

  • Manage social media accounts: write posts, engage with audience and generally monitor activity on our social media accounts.
  • Identify and ensure founders attend high-potential events to maximize exposure to potential customers and clients.

Fundraising and Funder Relations:

  • Profile and manage investor relations, ensuring timely follow-up based on meeting outcomes.
  • Manage the company data room and ensure documentation is kept up to date.
  • Identify sources of equity-free funding, support bid writing and strategic planning for future fundraises.
  • Support quarterly reporting, runway projections, and assist with the development of business plan decks.
Requirements

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join the cockpit of Searo at a unique moment in the company’s journey as we launch our first products and expand as an organisation.

  • 2 – 5 years of experience in a relevant field (e.g., management consulting, VC, start-up environments, R&D).
  • Strong project-management skills with a proven track record of leading and executing complex projects.
  • Ability extract analyse and synthesise relevant information from complex data sets or situations and present findings highly effectively.
  • High sense of accountability and autonomy, with the ability to work independently.
  • Hold a 'high bar' for the quality of your output. You are innovative, empathetic, a strong communicator with a great work ethic.
  • Proven ability to motivate and develop team members, anticipate and resolve conflicts.
  • Excellent communication skills (presentations, written, verbal).
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive, results-driven attitude.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Adept in relevant software tools (e.g., Airtable, Notion, Canva, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Access to own transport is a significant advantage, and you may be required to travel.
  • On-site presence at our labs (Cambridge & Royston) for at least 50% of the time.
