Chief Animal Technician

Applications are invited for a motivated and experienced Chief Animal Technician to be part of a hard working team in a busy University Biomedical Service facility situated in South Cambridge.
You will undertake both licenced and unlicensed scientific procedures along with daily husbandry and maintenance to assist the technicians as required. You are responsible for the maintenance of all necessary records, referring any issues and concerns as necessary. This will include the use of IVC technology, supervision of day to day husbandry, management of complex breeding schedules and colony management of genetically modified animals. Checking and recording environmental parameters and general condition of animals.
You will be able to work both independently and as part of a team, with experience supervising staff. You will have IAT Level 2 or equivalent (as a minimum), Home Office Licence modules A - C and will be a Personal Licence holder. In depth experience of working within a biofacility is essential, as are excellent communication skills. You must be able to use a computerised data management system. Knowledge of relevant Home Office legislation is important, as is knowledge and experience in the principals of aseptic surgery and specialised breeding techniques.
The facility operates a rota system to provide animal care and essential husbandry at weekends and over Bank Holidays.
