Chief Information Officer

The University of Cambridge is a world-renowned institution, consistently ranked among the best universities globally. As a leader in academic excellence, it achieves this through its Faculties, Departments, and Institutions, as well as its 31 Colleges. The University is known for its record of discovery and innovation, with a regional, national, and global reach that attracts the brightest minds.
The CIO and Director of the UIS will play a crucial role in shaping the University's digital future. This individual will sit on the University's Senior Leadership Team, with a mandate spanning digital, technical, and information services across the University. The CIO will be responsible for integrating these services, ensuring the University's technology community is well-supported and equipped to meet its growing needs.
The ideal candidate will be a well-established leader in technology and transformation, with excellent diplomacy and soft power skills. They will be responsible for mitigating growing threats such as cybersecurity, ensuring the University's infrastructure is secure and effective. The CIO will also need to be highly responsive, client-focused, and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
The CIO will take on a leadership role for IT staff throughout the University, potentially through a similar approach taken by Harvard and Stanford with a 'one-IT' people plan. They will establish an appropriate programme of change to shift the delivery of digital services to a product approach with multi-disciplinary teams that is driven by the University's needs.
Candidates must possess sufficient gravitas and credibility to forge high-level relationships, partnerships, and networks with academic bodies and public and private sector organisations globally. The CIO will be able to create a compelling narrative for the future, one that is authentic to the leader and the institution, and describes a world in which people can see themselves.
