About the role
West Northamptonshire Council has undergone a transformative journey since its transition to a unitary authority in April 2021. We have an exciting opportunity for a Welfare Benefits Adviser. The role assists the Debt and Money Advice team in ensuring that service users maximise their income in support of their care.

What will you be doing?
As a Welfare Benefits Adviser, you will be dedicated to maximizing income opportunities for residents and enhancing their support packages. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting eligibility checks for benefits, assisting with form completions, and providing support to residents throughout the appeals process, including representation in court when required.

Collaboration with internal and external partners will be crucial to ensuring residents receive comprehensive support. Additionally, good record-keeping of outcomes and work completed will be essential to this role.

About you
An in-depth knowledge and experience of welfare benefits casework as well as the ability to understand and explain relevant government legislation is vital to this role. Excellent communication, negotiation and advocacy skills are essential.

You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to work both as part of a team and flexibly, on your own initiative.

- A high degree of numeracy and literacy skills.
- Ability to write clear and concise reports
- Ability to travel to visit service users.
- Good interpersonal skills
