Job description

Do you want to be part of an effective and supportive team that helps people out of homelessness?

Our dedicated team works with referral partners to provide a compassionate, person-centred and trauma-informed service that helps over 10 people a month find accommodation in the private rented sector and supported housing.

The nature of the work will require someone who is adaptable, quick to learn and is a good team player. Lived experience of navigating the UK immigration and benefit systems would be helpful. Full on-the-job training and regular support will be provided.

**Position**: Housing and Refugee support worker

**Responsible to**: Director of Homeless Services

**Location**: Angel, Islington with some remote working.

**Hours**: 37.5 hours per week (full-time), core hours of 10am-5pm, Monday to Friday. There is the possibility of working part-time (20+ hours per week).

**Salary**: £25,713 - £31,000 per annum (depending on experience)

**Length of Contract**: 12 months

**Annual leave and benefits**:25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays (pro-rata), 5% pension contribution, Employee Assistance Programme.

What will you do in the role?
- Process client referrals and liaise with referral agencies
- Assess client needs and suitability for accommodation in the private rented sector or supported housing via in-person meetings and telephone appointments
- Make referrals to hostels and supported housing
- Assist clients to access accommodation, grants and benefit claims
- Support clients to sustain accommodation
- Work with the team to keep improving the service

Requirements - this job is for you if you:

- Have good written and oral communication skills in English and can liaise with external agencies in a professional manner
- Can communicate well in at least one relevant community language e.g. Arabic, Tigrinya.
- Can work in a trauma-informed manner - ensuring that clients are empowered to have choice and appropriate autonomy
- Can work under emotional pressure and respond to stressful situations in a professional manner
- Can take initiative as a member of a team, whilst maintaining professional boundaries and standards

Desirable Experience:

- Lived experience of the UK immigration or asylum system
- Working with disadvantaged and vulnerable people
- Working within a team of professional staff and volunteers
- Successfully building relationships with a variety of stakeholders
- Working within an organisation with a Christian ethos
