**Job description**:
**This role is office based however, DBS are working hard to improve our access to, and use of, digital technology, empowering our people to work remotely.**
Main Responsibilities:
a) Undertaking the review of governmental departments’ historical records to ensure that the MoD complies with the Public Records Act (PRA) and the Freedom of Information Act (FOI), as well as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The PRA requires departments to identify and select records that contain information of historical value for permanent preservation and public viewing to The National Archives (TNA) or keeping them archived in-house.
b) Identifying records which although selected for preservation at TNA remain sensitive and should not be released to the public prematurely, whilst citing appropriate FOI exemptions. Reviewers will also be required to highlight sensitivities in preparation for redaction or retention, whilst completing the necessary records and documentation to support their decision.
c) If a file is not deemed worthy of permanent preservation, a reviewer is responsible for disposing of the file through the correct means, in accordance with the Public Records Act.
d) Occasional visits to MoD Main Building and Swadlincote for bulk review tasks. There will also occasionally be opportunity to visit other approved places of deposit such as museums and other MoD sites.
e) Liaising with MoD and other governmental departments to support the above.
This role will require some manual handling.
**Person specification**:
- Driving licence
- Technical knowledge on the MoD - Armed forces structure, equipment knowledge
- Detailed political history from 1990 onwards
