**About this Role**:

Oakbank school is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed family liaison officer to work between 25 and 30 hours per week from January 2024. The working hours, and days of this position are flexible and will be discussed during interview. The person appointed will work closely with our student services team and our attendance officer in identifying those students, and families, at most risk of missing out on their education and offering bespoke support packages to those identified individuals.

**Job purpose**
- To provide support to students, and their families, who are not accessing school on a regular basis.
- To ensure students and their families feel supported by Oakbank school.
- To provide support and guidance that promotes high quality parenting.
- To educate and support families in accessing local and national services.

**Main duties and responsibilities**
- Understand the primary rights and responsibilities of parents to raise their children, and support parents by helping them to improve their parenting skills for example by running informal and formal parenting interventions including evidence based parenting programmes and providing appropriate information or referrals.
- Promote high quality at home parenting such as promoting conversations between parents and their children and encouraging authoritative rather than authoritarian discipline.
- Support for parents and for their children with early signs of social, emotional, health or behavioural issues, and work with them, school staff and other support agencies to prevent problems worsening and interfering with the child’s ability to engage with school and learning.
- To provide transition support for parents/carers of children starting school and on transfer to secondary school and other life transitions where appropriate.
- To provide impartial information or referrals about national and local services available to parents, children and families including those provided by education, social care, youth justice, childcare providers, the voluntary sector and others, including facilitating swift and easy access to specialist services where appropriate through the use of the Common Assessment Framework.
- Working with parents in a school context, supporting them and building their engagement with their child’s learning.
- Encourage good relations and effective dialogue between parents and teachers about children’s progress.
- To work with school refusers / students with low attendance to encourage them back into school. This may include home visits, meet and greets in school when students return, regular check-ins with students and their families once the student has returned to school.
- To work closely with the attendance lead and student support officers at the school to identify students at risk and the devise plans to support said students in accessing / continuing to access school.
- Advocate for parents' needs and concerns within the school, working to ensure their voices are heard and considered in decision-making processes.
- Coordinate and facilitate parent events, workshops, and training sessions to promote parent involvement, engagement, and education.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of parent interactions, communications, and activities.
