Brighter Futures for Children is an independent, not-for-profit-company, wholly owned by Reading Borough Council. Our responsibility is to deliver quality children's services, early help, education and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) services to children and families in Reading.

**About the **role**

This role will provide operational duties regarding exclusions in liaison with the Education Access Team Manager, and Head of Education Access and Support. Contributing to the reduction of exclusions and suspensions and increase educational inclusion through support and challenge to the multi-agency partnership and through determined advocacy for children and young people, with a focus on increasing time in school to improve outcomes.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Provide advice and guidance to families and schools regarding statutory duties regarding suspensions and exclusions
- With the Performance and Data Team, collate data and reports on exclusions that inform future strategy in reducing the overall rate of exclusion across our schools
- Administer the LA’s role in ensuring that exclusions are appropriately managed and handled, including LA representation at Discipline Committee Meetings through physical attendance and/or written representation
- Be the point of contact for exclusions with schools and parents, advocating for the best interest of children embedded within therapeutic approaches
- Co-ordinating with Cranbury College and the Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) team on school inclusion strategy to reduce exclusion
- Manage data and links with stakeholders with respect of alternative provision and re-integration of pupils excluded.
- Have local knowledge of the commissioning team’s directory of alternative providers and schools with which to engage where BFfC is seeking alternative placements or re-integration of students excluded to support
- Attend relevant network meetings and panels contributing to the school inclusion of pupils

**Experience/skills required.**
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g., Social Work, Education, Youth Work) with membership of appropriate professional body where relevant (e.g., GTC, HCPC) or NVQ level 4 in relevant field (e.g. Education Welfare, Learning Mentor, Connexions), or substantial previous experience as an Education Welfare Officer
- Knowledge of current Education legislation including Exclusions and Safeguarding
- Good working knowledge of child protection and safeguarding processes, procedures and thresholds
- Experience of working with families/children/young people, schools and/or in a statutory agency or environment governed by legislation and legal processes
